Brick vs White House

Completed 2023
Gadigal Land of Wangal People

A four bedrooms, two bathrooms, geometric open-plan living space and a lush backyard added to a cute cottage.

The brief

A consider family home for five on a tight budget. A home that retains the existing cute cottage at the front with two jacaranda trees at the front and rear of the site.

The solution(s)

A restoration of the existing floor plan to provide four generous sized bedrooms. A change in level with a rear addition which allowed for the roof form to pitch up to draw in the northern light through a large skylight without feeling overlooked by close neighbours.

The feeling

A sanctuary for us to breath easy says the client.

The generous skylights throw light into every corner of the main room, and it gives us a sense of wellness in our confinement. It is indeed a sanctuary for us to breathe easy. We hoped for something beautiful and thoughtful and what we have is all of those things and so much more.
