The brief

Our clients, parents of young kids, were seeking a new home that could be tailored to their lives from the very beginning. Their brief called for a home that felt private and protected on a long, narrow double-fronted block with a busy road at one end and close neighbours on either side - while providing spacious living areas, generous amenity and a strong connection to landscape.

The solution

The design unfolds in a linear arrangement across the site. Set down below street level and surrounded by planting on all sides, the interiors feel grounded and secluded. Skylights and thoughtful openings bring in abundant natural light while preserving privacy where needed.

On the ground floor, the living areas connect seamlessly to the outdoor dining, pool and gardens, allowing parents to keep an eye on kids playing on the lawn from the kitchen or lounge. Meanwhile, the first floor is dedicated entirely to the family's bedrooms and bathrooms; an intentionally quiet and peaceful zone.

The dual frontage was carefully considered. The main entrance sits along the quieter street, leading down to the home through a leafy courtyard, while the busier road elevation is more introverted: higher fences, minimal openings, and lush rear planting to dampen noise and soften the built form.

The feeling

A home in which every space feels considered, luxurious and tailored to the people who live there. Meticulously designed to navigate and optimise the constraints of its site, Long House provides our clients with a private, peaceful environment for their family to inhabit and enjoy for many years to come.
